Research on Autonomous RIS Configuration Presented at IEEE Future Networks World Forum
Abdelrahman Elkhateeb, Doctoral Candidate within the EXACT-6G MSCA Doctoral Network at Greenerwave / ESPCI Paris – PSL, presented his research paper at the IEEE Future Networks World Forum (FNWF) held in Lisbon, Portugal.
The paper, titled “A Framework for Autonomous RIS Configuration Based on 5G NR Signaling”, introduces a framework that enables Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) to autonomously configure themselves using existing 5G signals. By detecting transmissions from both the base station, the user and estimating their directions, the proposed approach determines the optimal reflection configuration of the surface without requiring a dedicated control channel or explicit user feedback.
The paper was co-authored with Julien de Rosny, Ahmad Shokair, and Youssef Nasser.
The presentation of this research at IEEE FNWF highlights the ongoing contributions of the EXACT-6G network to advancing innovative technologies for next-generation communication systems.
